STLD is proud to support the founding of the Profile Awards; commencing in 2024
The Profile Awards have been created and are coordinated by Durham and Jennie Marenghi in association with the ABTT, the ALPD and the STLD; the Awards recognise lighting design excellence in Theatre and Television in the UK and took place at the Alexandra Palace theatre on the 6th of June 2024.
Alongside eight specific Theatre awards and six TV awards there was a Student Virtual Lighting Design competition and the Richard Pilbrow Lifetime Recognition Award in the name of Richard Pilbrow by kind agreement with Richard’s family and sponsored by Theatre Projects.
The awards ceremony was an informal cabaret style seating affair with plenty of opportunity to network and catch up with friends and peers with at least half of those in attendance being professional Lighting Designers.
There was also a Student Virtual Lighting Design Award whereby Lighting Design students and programmers from UK colleges were invited to create a two-minute animation using WYSIWYG 2023 or LD Capture visualisation software to music of their choice in a 3D model of the Royal Albert Hall provided by Durham Marenghi and populated with an Ayrton fixture virtual rig.
The student entries were judged by the professional Profile Awards TV and Theatre nominees and the Virtual competition student nominees received an invitation to The Profile Awards event with the winner being announced live at the Awards at Alexandra Palace. These awards are kindly sponsored by AC Entertainment Technologies.
This year's Profile Awards ceremony took place during the ABTT tradeshow on the 6th June 2024, and plans are already under way for 2025.
The STLD is coordinating the TV section with judges chaired by Stuart Gain, STLD Secretary. Details of the categories and the conditions for entries can be found on the Profile Awards website, together with full details about the event
Nominations will be for the lighting team and not just the Lighting Designer. For the judges to choose they will need a clip of the show of up to 10 minutes free to view, and your citation can let the judges know more about any difficulty factors to be considered
All entries must be from mainly UK based productions and have been first shown in the UK after 1st May 2024 and before 30th April 2025 when nominations will close.
Shows can have been shown on any broadcast or streaming platform, but we must have a video clip to make judgement on.
