John Piper
Bio
John Piper serves as Treasurer of the Society of Television Lighting & Design.
Trained at Rose Bruford College and the BBC, John is a lighting professional with experience spanning theatre, broadcast and live performance. He has developed a refined approach to portraiture lighting for both live and camera environments, with particular strengths in picture composition, technical systems and lighting control.
John’s professional work is anchored by his full-time role as Vision Supervisor on EastEnders with BBC Studioworks, where he also works as Lighting Director.
His lighting work includes episodes from the Kojo cuckooing storyline and Okie Okyere murder episode, which were selected to represent EastEnders as part of its 2026 BAFTA Television Award for Best Soap submission — an award the programme went on to win.
Alongside his broadcast work, John maintains an active freelance practice as a theatre lighting programmer.
